New Acquisition! Senjougahara Hitagi 1/8

It's been a while since I've posted something. I'm still alive...

After having neglected the blog for a while... I finally have some newsworthy material.

It's a new acquisition in the form of Senjougahara Hitagi Good Smile Company edition.

It looks great, details are incredible, gradients on the correct places make it look even better.
Putting on the stationary required some effort, but the end result looks great. Definitely worth the yen.

As you can see on the pic, her profile is very well sculpted to the detail of her mouth. The small details on the stationary are all perfectly painted. Even the notches on the box-cutters are in there.

Also, though not visible on the pic, her pantsu are also correctly detailed as in the anime ;)

Wonderful figure, a must for every Bakemonogatari/Hitagi fan~

After a nice snowy onsen soak and breakfast that morning, it was time to go to the next destination: Sapporo~

In the morning during breakfast it was somewhat foggy but it cleared up when we left for Sapporo.

We have spent most of the time that morning driving to Sapporo. So nothing exciting happening...

Using frogs as signs makes you reluctant to run them over.

After arriving at the hostel it was time for some lunch. We decided to get some Miso ramen as that was one of the items on the Hokkaido to eat list. The strong and somewhat spicy soup warmed us up nicely.

The rental car had to be returned at 19.00 so we decided to drive to Otaru as we had plenty of time. Otaru is a small port town not far from Sapporo.(30 min drive) It is famous for its canal, glass factory and buildings of European design. Otaru, being on the north coast of Hokkaido, gets a lot of snow in the winter. Something that was very much confirmed when we arrived.

After walking around for a bit, it was time to return to Sapporo and return the car. Before we returned the car we had to fill it up but the navigation system proved to be not very accurate when it comes to gas stations. After finding one we experienced the very nice service of a Japanese gas station. The service being: a service person guiding you to a spot, filling up the tank, cleaning the windshield and telling you when it was safe to get back on the road again. Not getting that anywhere in the Netherlands.

The drop-off point was near Sapporo station so we also got to see the station a bit.

As we were quite hungry after returning the car we dropped by an izakaya for dinner. There one of the thing I had, was another item on the Hokkaido to eat list: Hokke. Hokke is a salted and sundried fish and prepared over a charcoal grill. As it is a fatty fish, the fat melts when grilled giving it a very nice taste and aroma. Goes perfectly with beer. I can recommend it to anyone.

Finished eating we returned to the hostel for some sleep.

I've restarted drawing a bit lately. I'm trying to draw using a tablet combined with SAI as drawing software. I must say I'm starting to get into drawing digitally. Undo is my best friend. Also I tried to do some coloring.
Here's what the result is.

I'm not entirely satisfied with the image. Folds and creases still are difficult even more in combination with shadows and lighting. But it suffices as an experiment with coloring techniques in SAI. I'll post the images I make on my pixiv account.

Pixiv is a japanese image sharing site where artist can show their work. Quite some artists upload there and there is some great artwork on there.(also crappy stuff like mine though) The site requires you to sign up and is in japanese. If you want to sign up but have trouble with japanese you can try this guide in english.

Continuing where we left off.. Noboribetsu.

Ninja's

After having a nice morning soak at (6 am till 7 am) and some breakfast it was time to continue our journey.

Exploring the Ryokan for a bit we found a gift shop with an arcade...

After we seen enough of the ryokan it was time to depart. The skies cleared up and was looking quite good. It was a short walk to the car and Noboribetsu by daylight was quite bright..
The target destination was Lake Shikotsu. But before we would go there we decided to go to Noboribetsu Date Jidai Mura since we were in the neighborhood anyways. A more or less historical representation of a village during Edo period. It's actually more of a ninja theme park. Yea ninja's~

It was not as crowded when Danny Choo went (not very surprising looking at the weather)

After some trying our ninja skills using blowpipe and shuriken, we noticed some Hong Kong and Korean tour groups rushing to a building. Looking at the programme we found out it was time for the ninja show! The show was quite nice and it's clear why the tour groups were rushing. Showing your appreciation was also done in a special way. If you liked it you could put some coins in a sheet of paper, fold it up and throw it on stage.(Don't think the paper works as a good buffer when being hit but w/e)

After the show the tour groups rushed back to their buses. We decided to explore the rest of the village. The ninja maze was awesome. The sloped floors really got us and it was hard to walk through the maze. But since it was fun we went again and tried a speed run. It's a good thing the poles and edges of doors were covered with cushions...

There were two more shows we visited. One of the shows was about geisha's where someone from the audience gets on the stage to play the role of a Daimyo.(translated there as rich man~) Seeing how there were not many visitors and some of us were sticking out of the crowd (due to length) one of us was chosen which made the play much more interesting. The shows do require you to understand a bit of Japanese but are funny nonetheless.

It was quite late after we were done walking around. We quickly drove to the Ryokan we booked at Lake Shikotsu. It was already dark when we arrived at Lake Shikotsu so no pictures of Lake Shikotsu that day. After again a soak (at the lakeside this time), it was already time for dinner.

I've been back for a while now but have been neglecting the blog ^^;;
Will update with more japantrip posts when I have sorted out the pictures.

Today is 4/1 and many companies do some major things to celebrate April fools.

Good Smile Company chose to extend the joke they did last year. A second movie with Asanon as main character was announced.

Type Moon prepared something much bigger. Just for 4/1 several Type Moon characters started a twitter account and started twittering for a day long. Most of the accounts are removed now and traces of the prank are being erased. At this moment Sion and Makidera's pages are still around. Also Kohaku's twitpic page and Shirou's seem to be alive
Some of the tweets:
Kohaku woke up first tweeting about patrolling the mansion to waking up Akiha and making breakfast. Saber's day compised of eating the food Shirou made, sleeping, sword maintenance and taking pictures of the food she ate... Rin is bad with computers and needed Archer's help to get on twitter. It didn't take many tweets before she gave up. At some moment Dark Sakura woke up and ate shinji. Quite some effort for an april fools prank but is was very amusing.

A bit late but i finally found some time to write up something about the trip. Expect more the coming days... I hope...

After the flight and arriving in tokyo to rest for a day, we flew to shin chitose, hokkaido. There was no snow so we were somewhat disappointed. After fixing the rental car we drove back to the airport to get wait and pick up the last member of the party. Driving on the left of the road with steering wheel right was different... (stupid direction indicator and windshield wiper lever also switched sides) After completing the party we found out the gods left us with a surprise... a nice coat of snow covering everything...

So the drive to noboribetsu, our first hokkaido destination and a hotspring resort, took longer than expected. As the snow fell recently the roads were not cleared and I had to drive by following the tracks other cars made.
After the expressway and a part of mountainous roads we finally arrived. We stayed at a ryokan which claims to have hotspring heaven. The different outdoor and indoor baths were hot and great. Great for warming you up after a long trip. First up was a buffet dinner with lots of hokkaido specialties like crab, squid etc... we went for a walk to help digestion.

Another waking up and getting ready in 5 minutes clip has been made.

Quite some tips this time.
Getting dressed with a different technique with special sock apparatus and glove technique. Cheese fondue and cappuchino honey sweetener/lipgloss breakfast is made with some smart usage of wires. Wire is also used for laundry. Smart usage of foil for faster drying. Head warming is a bit weird. Brushing teeth is a bit weird with dual toothbrushes, reducing water use by using a pet bottle.

But it does look like the target audience is evolving.

Short 東方 Touhou AMV/MAD

After seeing the AMVs at the convention I was thinking on how much work it would be to make one. So being inspired by a touhou arrangement I heard before, I decided to give it a try. Due to my natural lazyness, I also decided not to use short movies from anime, but to only use images.

The song is by はちみつれもン(hachimitsulemon) a doujin music group, vocals by erica. The song is slow but gives off a nice japanese atmosphere. The title is 酔月(drunken moon), so when deciding on what touhou character to put in there was not very hard(touhou's drunkard suika ibuki)

As the song is calm, not many fancy effects were used. Panning and zooming images with simple transitions depending on the song/image. Some subtle differences in the effects were put in there, referring to the situation or character in the image.

Abunai 2009: Dutch Anime Convention

Last weekend I've been to the local anime convention(One of the few in the Netherlands). It was a 3 day event so me and other members of the local japanese culture association went and stayed at nearby cottages.

The convention was nice and there was plenty of stuff to do.
There was a dealer room with many shops having stands selling goodies. This time nothing peaked my interest, so no loot. Anime and movies were shown on large screens in videorooms(though I didnt watch anything)
SoramimiKaraoke The karaoke was there to provide there karaoke(I didnt sing though I did time some songs for karaoke)
What I did do was spend some time at the games room, playing projectorgames (falldown and skykids ftw!)

There were plenty of cosplay events like a cosplay act and fashion show.
They even had a maid cafe with some very cute maids.

So as an impression of how it was, here is a picture of four cute ladies cosplaying as the K-On girls.(I assumed there would be plenty of pictures online elsewhere so not many pictures were taken. The only cosplay picture I have taken is this one OTL)

Another nice event was the AMV competition. Many great AMV were submitted.

This year the organization was able to arrange a taiko performance by Tatake, a Belgian taiko group who even has performed in Japan. The performance was nice and refreshing as they added some typical Belgian humor to the act,

Most of the time I spent time hanging around with other people having a great time. I'm already looking forward to next years convention.

第３回MMD杯 MikuMikuDanceCup 2009 Summer

People checking out the nicovideo ranking must have already noticed it. Currently the MikuMikuDanceCup is being held. Basically it is a contest of the best animation made using MikuMikuDance. The final entrees have been uploaded and the most popular ones are quite high in the general ranking. The contest is until friday 21/08 and the results will be published on monday 24/08.

Most animations use the Hatsune Miku/Vocaloid models. Some use different models like Mona. not much to say about the 3D model but the animation looks great. Some use the k-on girls...

My favorite until now is this very nice Touhou animation.

化物語 Bakemonogatari Full ED:　君の知らない物語 kimi no shiranai monogatari

It looks like the full version of the ending theme of Bakemonogatari has leaked onto nicovideo. I very much like the song and it was a nice surprise as the single was planned to release in a couple of days on the 12th of August. The song 君の知らない物語(kimi no shiranai monogatari) is composed by Supercell, the group Ryo belongs to. Ryo is famous on Nicovideo for the songs he has made using Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. This has lead to many covers (歌ってみた) of his songs with the most famous one being Melt（メルト）. His songs have a certain style which was somewhat recognizable when hearing the ED for the first time. The singer is Nagi (previously known as ガゼル) who is also very much known on Nicovideo for her songs. Before as Gazelle she also made a cover of Melt with Ryo. I've been looking forward the ED to be released. This is a nice surprise indeed.

JDrama: Mr Brain

As of this weekend I've been watching some Jdrama again. My time used for watching Jdrama steadily decreased since my internship but last friday I decided to watch a drama thats airing this/last season again. I finally watched the Galileo movie and that made my drama watching urges resurface. This drama (and the Galileo Movie)kept me from making post I planned to make this weekend. So expect more post when I'm done watching.

After some looking around I decided to watch Mr Brain. Its quite funny and you learn things about brains :P
It is about Tsukumo Ryusuke, former host club host, brain scientist due to a accident. He acts a bit odd but nonetheless is assigned to the brain science department of IPS (Institute of Police Science) where he due to his odd interests is involved in crime investigation. There he, using his 'brain science' skills, helps solving different cases using high tech equipment.

Tsukumo is played by Kimura Takuya, famous actor singer as part of SMAP. Besides him many different Japanese celebrities including Gackt, Kamenashi Kazuya and Nakama Yukie.

Technology has come this far that you can eat virtual yakiniku. Perfect for them poor students and people on a diet. You only need a good and active imagination and a computer(and a paper apron if you're afraid to drop virtual meat). The only downside is the wait until the meat is done cooking...

I've been checking out vocaloid songs occasionally now and usually I prefer the 歌ってみた version where someone else sings the song making it sound less artificial. But in the case of this song the vocaloid voice goes perfectly with the music. The lyrics are quite funny too. A translation is provided in the comments.

New Haruhi Eps

It was leaked earlier by some broadcasting station and got subsequently removed as reported by zepy. But it seems it is confirmed. The eight ep of the re-airing will be an new ep. This is because the re-airing is in chronological order and the 笹の葉ラプソディ(bamboo leaf rhapsody) arc was not in the first season. Looking at the storyline in chronological order after this ep the upcoming eps will be a mix of new eps and old eps.

Waking up and getting ready

I have never been great at waking up and getting ready. Since I started with the internship I have to wake up have to wake up at 6 in the morning and get ready in just 30 minutes. For me that is already quite fast but it seems it is possible to do it in just 5 minutes.

I must say some of the techniques used are quite interesting like tying the tie. How he puts on his pants looks weird.

Sakura & new camera

It has been a while since my last post. I have been quite busy with school and started with an internship. Meanwhile I got myself a new camera. On the trip to japan the old ixus 55 was a bit too limited. Been doubting between a DSLR and a high end compact but in the end I chose for the portability. After some deliberation I chose for the Panasonic Lumix LX3. The reviews on dpreview and dannychoo looked good. It does not have much zoom but after checking the zoom in the japan trip pics the extra zoom was not that necessary.

Been playing with it for a while and in the street there happened to be some sakura trees in bloom. Not enough trees to look like its raining sakura petals so I got a blossom to check the macro qualities of the camera.
I had to get used to the shallow DOF when taking pictures. Often petals in the back were a bit blurred. Love the details you see on the picture like the structure of a petal.
Also lighting was not easy with the lens being so close. In this pic I tried a shutter time of 60 seconds combined with f/8.0 Worked out quite nice.

I must say I like the manual setting of the camera. The whitebalance/focus is still tricky though. Still need more practice with the camera. When I get the hang of the lighting/whitebalance aspect, expect some figure pics.

K1-Max Cosplay Fighter

You'd never think K-1 and cosplay would be related in any way. But now there is Yuuichiro "Jienotsu" Nakajima. He's not just any K1 fighter. He is an anime-otaku K1 fighter.
His love for anime is shown in his K1 ring entrances and appearances at press conferences. In his latest fight he entered in Ranka cosplay and doing her dance from her song Seikan Hikou. He also won that fight with a KO, though in later rounds he got TKOed himself. Too bad he can't fight in cosplay. Would be funny seeing Ranka punching a K1 fighter knockout. Previously he has cosplayed as various anime characters including Hatsune Miku and Haruhi. It is hilarious when all other K1 fighters get pictures taken in fighting pose in a suit while he does a pose in cosplay. I also got quite some laughs with his ring entrances. It seems he has gained quite some support from the akiba-kei. If more people would do this we could get a K1 fight between anime characters~
But still.. cosplay would be preferred over crossplay. Seeing good female cosplayers in the ring would be nice wouldn't it?

Anime Sping Season 2009

Winter season is coming to an end so its time to take a look what the spring season is offering.

1/8 Meiya Mitsurugi review

So I have finally taken some pictures of the Meiya I got last month. For people that don't know the character, Meiya is a female main character from the game MuvLuv made by âge who also made Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. MuvLuv is actually split into two games Extra and Unlimited which take place in two universes. Extra is a normal one where the main characters are schoolmates and one where aliens invaded and humans are fighting them off with giant mecha. Meiya happens to be a pilot of such mecha in the Unlimited universe, hence the skintight pilot suit. The figure is actually based on the sequel Muvluv Alternative which also takes place in the Unlimited universe. It has a great story though some might find it depressing. Also it has some welcome cameo's from KimiNozo.

Enough about the game, on with the figure.
As said before the figure looks great and was modeled well after the original character designs. The suit is painted with glossy paint giving it a shiny finish whereas her head end hair is painted matt using white for highlights. The hair looks great as her hair and hairribbon are modeled in an active pose showing the many layers of her hair.
Though there are some imperfections that are visible when you are looking for them. Her left knee's paint is a bit "chipped" and some casting lines are still visible.

After some miserable attempts to take pictures in my poorly lit room with a compact camera I decided to move to a more bright environment.. the bathroom.
With plenty of light and bright walls the pictures turned out much better as no flash was needed. Though some exposure adjusting was needed.
Here Meiya was exposed more giving the picture some bloom effect. Her hairribbon disappears into the background.

Mikatan posted some pictures of the painted version of the 1/7 Lily Saber that will be up for preorder soon. Release will be in june. I must say the figure looks even more gorgeous after some paint. The new pictures show Lily saber from more angles now. A behind and above picture is available now. The motion and flow in her pose is very well captured in her dress. You can also see how Avalon(the sheath) is floating midair.

New Loot

Some loot finally arrived. It arrived last week but I was too busy/lazy/distracted to post about it. This time the order contains another issue of megami creators. This time it is vol 08. I just put a megami creators in every order until I get them all. It got a nice poster of a nurse mecha girl and several foldouts :3 more on megami creators in future posts.
I also got several figures. With figma Miyuki I now got all main lucky star girls complete. Also got two haruhi third set puchi-nendoroids. Never had much luck with puchi nendoroids. I Kept getting the same one when I was in Japan last summer -.- Luckily enough this time I got two different ones. The Haruhi and Nagato in concert outfit.
But the thing I was anticipating moest was my first 1/8 sized figure: Meiya Mitsurugi of the MuvLuv series. I must say she looks very nice. There are some small things that are not entirely perfect but not anything to fuss over. More on it in a review of her which will be posted in the future when I find time to make decent pictures.

I'm quite happy with the purchase this time. Only I'm just realizing that besides Meiya there are two other figures in the MuvLuv set. Somehow I get the urge to get those too though my wallet is complaining as it is quite empty now...

More Haruhi Extravaganza figures releasedates announced

The releasedates of Haruhi and Mikuru were announced before to be March and April 2009 respectively. Now the releasedate for the Yuki figure has been announced to be May 2009. With this the releasedate of the all of the extravaganza set have been announced. All are still available for preorder on HobbySearch. With 7057 yen per figures it would be too much of an assault on my cash reserves :(

Also a cute MikuMikku Kagami nendoroid from the Lucky Star OVA was announced.

Plamo Projects Update

The plamo projects were not in a standstill in the holidays. After finishing the build of the rafe, I started practicing with airbrushing some old hgs of mine. Until I get some confidence in airbrushing painting the rafe will have to wait. Because airbrushing all the time is somewhat monotonous I decided to start another build. Since i was already working with aiplanes the Valkyrie would be a nice intermediate. I got quite some work done in the holidays. The mochup build is done and I spend some time trying to have it transform.
Here the blank VF25F in airplane modus. The components are somewhat loose and parts do not always join up very well due to the joints used for transforming. The plane modus looks quite nice and sleek but without decals it is somewhat empty.
The VF25F in Gerwalk modus. The gerwalk modus hasn't been a modus I was very fond of. It just looks a bit weird. The landing gear and the body-mounted gun are removed. The engines are rotated down and have become legs. Furthermore using a mechanism in the engines/motor allows the thruster to pulled out more making it become an ankle and foot. Also arms are rotated out from the body. The tail becomes the shield. The shield also holds a knife.
The VF25F in Battroid modus. Here is a shot of the VF25F holding the rifle. Transforming to battroid required more work. The wings were folded back in. The hips were straigthened out making it become more of a standing leg. The cockpit area is divided in several parts that fold into the body. Whereas the head and antennae pop up from the body.

2 different sheets of decals were in the box. A clear sticker sheet and a water decal sheet. Saving the water decals for the more high quality painted version in the future I have started to put the sticker decals on the body. This is quite some work handling the damn small decals. I haven't finished putting on the decals yet. I guess I'll save that for later.

Hoshi Saga

I guess it's time for another flash game I've been playing a bit lately. This time it is Hoshi Saga. It consists of many levels where you only have to do one thing. Find the star. Some levels are quite easy and obvious. Others require some thinking or clicking and rarely some typing. I got stuck at some levels but after skipping them and playing it later might provide more insight. All in all a quite amusing game.

Plamo Project Update

Besides getting figures yesterday, it was also the triweekly plamo building day. I was too lazy to putty my MG Strike E IWSP so I started on the build of my Yukikaze Rafe instead. I got it in my last Japan trip as I couldn't find the Mave. There is not much difference between them as the Rafe is the unmanned version of the Mave. They are so alike that most sprues in the Rafe Box are actually from the Mave. It does not have the cockpit but does have the figures for the pilots. As it is an ex model painting and gluing is necessary. I already glued some parts but need to wait as some parts need to be painted before assembling and gluing it. I did do a mockup build as you can see in the picture. Next time should be painting it unless I'm lazy and put off painting and start another build.

New Arrivals

Yesterday was a very good in terms of figures. An order finally arrived~
Figma Hatsune Miku, Figma Kagami, Xenosaga Legend ep 2 figure, 2x Melty Blood pretty collection, Hayate the Combat Butler vol 9 and and issue 11 of Megami Creators Magazine. For the Xenosaga figure I got Shion. She will stand nicely next to the Kos-Mos I fetched in Japan. For the Melty Blood collection I got black Ren and vampire Arcueid. The two twintail figmas are very nice. The twintails both have joints so you can play with the hair giving it much more dynamic poses.

Also, a week ago something else arrived. The VF-25F Alto custom.
It was sold out at most places when I wanted to order it. So I had it preordered for the rerelease at rainbowten. The transformation sequence looks interesting, I will build it when I'm done with my current plamo projects. It got 2 sheets of decals. You can choose to use water transfer or transparent stickers. Will decide on that later.
With them new figures my desktop became much more filled with figures~

Anime Winter Season 2008/2009

With the end of the year ending, the start of a new anime season is nearing. Here's an image I found with thumbnails and descriptions. Not many titles that I heard of before except the second seasons of Druaga and Shikabane Hime and third of Minami Ke. Furthermore an interesting OVAs like Higurashi. Not many must watch titles atm. Probably gonna check the first ep of most of them before deciding what to watch. Anyone got some recommendations?

New Suzumiya Haruhi figure

A new Haruhi figure set has been announced by the folks at MaxFactory. It consists of the convert version of the 3 main female characters. The Haruhi figure will be released in March 2009. The release dates of other figures are not known yet. I'm glad the sculptor did not just copy the pose entirely from the original image. The dynamic pose looks good and the expression look well captured on the pictures. Also love the details like haruhi holding the guitar pick and the highly detailed clothing. If the price wasn't too high for my budget I get one... :(

Gunpla Project Update

Last week there was another plamo session where I and some comrades worked on our plamo. This time I finished the build of my MG Strike E IWSP. I added the weapons and had my first experience with putty. One of the aiming thingies on the IWSP's guns broke off and got lost. So I fabricated a new one with putty. Now it looks like a yellow blob grew on the IWSP. I still need to file/sand it down ._. Still need to putty more misses and seams.

I also took some pics using the dslr with macrolens of a comrade. The pics look much nicer than what my digicam produces.

Clannad Underwear

But now they did printed underwear with Clannad characters. Yes... underwear with dango print. (Not a clannad girl, what were you thinking?) I guess it's merchandise for them extreme fanboys or girls. Or (fan)boys that want to attract fangirls.

waki miko reimu~

I played some Dance Dance Revolution with some Touhou songs a couple of days ago and ever since a song has been stuck in my head. Usually songs don't stick for long but this is a persistent one. As it has been stuck for a while now I might as well write something about it.
The evil song is called "Tsukiyo Wo Kakusanai Teido No Nouryoku?"(月夜を隠さない程度の能力？) by IOSYS, a group well known by their remixes of Touhou music. For people that are interested in the original: it is a remix from "少女綺想曲　〜 Dream Battle", a BGM track in the eighth Touhou game: Imperishable Night. It is the theme song for Hakurei Reimu, the miko you see in the picture. The original song is quite nice but the remix added some vocals(waki miko reimu~) which are repeated frequently causing it to loop in my head ._.

As I'm enjoying it in my head already I guess I'll share the joy~ (waki miko reimu)*

Saimoe 2008

The semi-finals went as predicted. The Hiiragi won and the Final would be a match between the twin sisters. Tsukasa won from Hinagiku with 1137 vs 1096 where Kagami clearly won from Nagisa with 1122 vs 922.

Kagami was too strong for her sister and easily won with 1037 vs 976. Kagami got less votes than the semi finals and she won either way. It would have been more interesting if it would be Kagami vs Hinagiku. Anyways Hiiragi Kagami is the winner of Saimoe 2008 so here's a pic.

Anime Backgrounds

As some already know, the setting and backgrounds of anime are sometimes based on real places. A well known one is Lucky Star. There they used the town Washimiya as setting. The shrines the Hiiragi sisters work at is an actual shrine there. This has led to large amount of fans and even the voice actors to visit the town and shrine.
Now I found a site where many of such anime/game are listed with pictures for comparison. Check it here. It seems more anime/games have real-life settings that I thought. It looks like the type moon and key games all have real-life settings. I guess the artists like some places so much they put it in the game/anime. For Haruhi, the area where the writer of the novel studied in his university times was used. Some way to pay tribute to the original author I guess. So anyone feel like visiting the area of your favorite anime/game when you're in Japan?

Leading Edge

I've found another flash game to play instead of doing something useful. Leading Edge is a sidescrolling shooter which is surprisingly fun to play. It is somewhat hard as you cant rambo your way through it. Still a fun game to play a couple of times though.

AR-Figure

Augmented reality, combining digital data with the real world using web cams, has found itself a new application, the AR figure. Not very long ago Geisha Tokyo Entertainment released their first AR figure. You just need a web cam and a computer running the software. Using the software and the cube and paddle that comes with the package you can have a virtual figure walking around on your desk. The cube and paddle have special print printed on it so the software recognizes the cube when being filmed with web cam. You can interact with it using the paddle. Depending on the print on the paddle you can poke or even undress the figure... Using other cubes and cards with different print you can also give presents to your figure. Somewhat scary how the first thing you can do to a virtual figure is undressing it...

Strike E IWSP progress

Today i finally have found the time to continue building my Strike E IWSP. For some time now my Strike E IWSP has been armless. Lately i couldn't find the time (was too lazy) to build the arms. Together with some comrades we spent the afternoon and evening building plamo. Had a good time and it is a great idea to make people that put off building plamo ^^;

Results of the day:
Strike E IWSP finally got arms ^^; (Added some panellining to test my new markers, I know it looks like crap but at least it got arms)

Now it just needs weapons and the build is somewhat complete. Still need to fill up mistakes add details and sand it until it is all smooth. All that then awaits me is painting it~
We'll see how long I can put off that one...

Fuuka Taisen

Last couple of days I've been wasting my time playing Fuuka Taisen. Fuuka Taisen is a 2D fighting game like Melty Blood but has Mai-hime characters instead. 3D backgrounds and 2D gamesprites. The gameplay is a bit different. Attacks do much more damage and countering does even more damage. Also every character has a "child" which can be used for special moves. The game is quite amusing, though sometimes it seems a bit unbalanced. Some characters clearly dominate some other characters. All in all a nice game.

A new MG has been announced and is open for reservation. The MSN-06S Sinanju Ver.Ka. After the Unicorn this is the new Ver. Ka. Based on the Sazabi you can recognise the traits from it. It is from the same timeframe as the Unicorn and it was built to compete with the Unicorn. It is also equipped with a psychoframe but it does not looks like it has a destroyer mode. It looks quite nice. Out for release late December.

A incredible hard game on the japanese game show haneru no tobira.
This time the contestants had to swing on a conveyorbelt, take a footstand, use it to jump onto a rope hanging from the ceiling and land on a platform in very hot water. Fail jumping on the conveyor means landing in flour. Failing the conveyor of the rope means landing in hot water.

Gundam Pack Exchange

While building the MG Strike E IWSP a question hit me. Is the IWSP compatible with other gundams? I only have 2 other MG to try it on. The MG Freedom and the MG Strike Freedom. It did require some minor changes but here are the results:

The MG Freedom with IWSP. The pack did not fit entirely. I had to remove 2 thrusters from the back of Freedom for the IWSP to fit. Sacrificing 2 thrusters for 1 large pack wasn't that big of a problem ^^. I must say the pack looks good on the Freedom.
Another pose holding the shield. Getting the pose right was not so simple. The swords form the IWSP were somewhat in the way of the arms.
Here Strike Freedom with the old wings comes along. Too bad the IWSP doesn't fit on the Strike Freedom.
Soon when I finish the Strike E IWSP I will try more variations.

New Gundam:00 game

2 PV's have been released for the upcoming gundam:00 game. It will be released for the PS2(which means I will be able to play it), on October 16th. The battle system is somewhat different from the previous Gundam games. Button press timing moments have been added and it looks much faster than the previous games. If the gameplay is good this will be my favorite medium of Gundam 00 as the anime was somewhat disappointing.

Pantsu Shots

You know pantyshot moments are not very rare in anime. Depending on the genre you usually get at least a few in a series. So far so good for the anime realm. I have come across a different game this time. Kagi Nochi Tobira is no action platform but more of a puzzle game. You need to find a key and the door. With just 20 levels it's less time consuming than Dot Action

I'm planning to post some nicodouga link on this blog. Nicodouga is a japanese video streaming site like youtube only more interesting content. Only problem is you have to register to view videos. The problem is that google analytics shows most readers of this blog are not proficient in japanese enough to get around nicodouga or even register. But I found a solution to that.

Once in every 5 years a Comiket Special is held. The next one is in 2010 and they are searching for a town to host the event and attract visitors to the town. I guess they aren't looking for a town outside japan. Else I would rally for somewhere near where I live...

Lucky Star Festival

We all know that the locations of the lucky star anime are based on real locations. Washinomiya shrine, the shrine where the shrine in Lucky Star was based on was already being visited by many fans of Lucky Star. Now they have held a festival at the shrine. A Lucky Star portable shrine was carried around by 120 fans. I guess the Lucky Star chars have become gods.

New anime season

A new anime season is starting soon. It got some great titles amongst it. Already know what you are going to watch? Here's a chart with some images.

Not sure what I'm going to watch. There are some second seasons like Gundam 00 s2, Rosario x Vampire capu 2 and Clannad After Story. Also some promising manga/light novel adaptations like Tora Dora, Kemeko DX and Kannagi. One sure watch is TV adaptation of Kyou no 5 no 2. There are still more interesting titles out there. Guess I will have to look at the first eps before I can decide.

Typing Mania 4

Remember Typing Mania? A while ago the Typing Mania 4 was released. Looks like someone set it up with some anime songs. Easy mode is doable. Normal is quite a challenge. Didn't tried hard or nightmare. It also has a different romanisation as in shi->si and tsu->tu.

Good Smile Company, well known for the high quality figures it produce, has launched a new english website. I must say it looks great and with the large images, it is great for deciding what figure to get when the amount of money you got is limited. The next step would be user reviews and overseas ordering facilities. For people that know dannychoo.com it will look familiar as it is running on Mirai Gaia the platform created by Danny Choo.

It was confirmed a while ago, the Infinite Justice from Seed Destiny is the next MG model. Releasing in October Hobbysearch has it already for preorder. It looks nice, though it does not have as much features as the Strike Freedom to play with. It would stand nice next to my Strike Freedom.

Knew production of anime isn't cheap but not that expensive. It does explain the high prices for anime DVDs in Japan though. Makes me wonder how much pizza hut paid for the in-anime ads in Code Geass
